Kangen water is ionized alkaline water produced by Enagic’s kangen water machines. Kangen machines use a process called electrolysis to produce this hydrogen and antioxidant rich water. That’s the gist of it.
Now that it’s out of the way, here’s a quick intro to the concept of alkaline water and talk specifically about it’s benefits.
In case you were wondering, Kangen Water is NOT a scam. Enagic is an alkaline water ionizer producer based in Japan, who uses Multi Level Marketing as their sales system. This is how people who purchase a machine can become distributors and then sell those machines and earn a commission from their sales. They can also build a team and treat it as a business.
I personally learned about it after reading this kangen water website, where they talk about a variety of benefits, and I felt like I would really enjoy drinking this water. Low and behold, I was RIGHT!
There are many testimonials out there talking about this water, but there are also a ton of competitors who like to bash the company, so if you ever read about Enagic or Kangen Water online, make sure you understand what bias the writer might have and whether or not they are trying to sell you a different water ionizer machine. I for example, love the water and own a Kangen machine, so that’s my bias.
All I want to do is spread the work about this amazing water and let as many people as possible know that it’s out there.
One of the ways kangen water helps your body, is by making it more alkaline, rather than acidic. Just FYI, cancer cells and tumors are acidic according to this article.

Kangen Water Machines
There are various types of Kangen water machines available on the Daly City, California market, which can range from low-end models that cost a few thousand dollars to high-end models that can run into multiple thousands of dollars. Most of Enagic’s line-up consists of Leveluk K8, which is the top of the line home use machine. The SD501 and SD501 Platinum, which are the most well known ones, due to their time-tested technology and durability.

Leveluk K8 & SD501
Now that you know about kangen water and have a better understanding of it’s benefits, let’s talk about the machines.
The top residential-use machines are Leveluk K8 and Leveluk SD501. Both are fantastic devices.
Leveluk K8
Leveluk K8 is currently the top of the line home-use machine. It looks great, has several handy features like a touch screen, auto shut-off, multiple languages, extra platinum-coated titanium plate and much more. Leveluk K8 costs around $5000 and is Enagic’s top of the line water ionizer.

Leveluk SD501
Leveluk SD501 was Enagic’s flagship machine, until they brought K8 to the market. This is the OG.
It has a more “medical” look and design, and is the machine that lots of celebrities have. Leveluk SD 501 cost right around $4000, so there’s a significant difference in price between the two machines.
Pros:
- Lower price
- Produces great kangen water
- Tried and true
Cons:
- Less attractive design that K8
- Only has 7 platinum-coated plates
Personally, our family has the SD501, but certainly understand why people would get the K8.
SD501 Platinum & SD501U
There are several variants of the SD501 machine that are currently for sale. Each one is meant for a different setting.
The SD501 Platinum has the same interior components and functionality, but on the outside it looks much different. The idea behind this new design was to match the stainless steel look of high end kitchen appliances and have some uniformity, otherwise the SD501 would stick out like a sore thumb.
The SD501U on the other hand is completely different. The idea was to create a high quality water ionizer for smaller kitchens, which is exactly what SD501U is. It’s a standard SD501 base with the same specs, but it comes equipped with a faucet and a display to select the type of water. This model is most commonly purchased for smaller apartments and condos, where kitchens tend to have less countertop real estate.
Super 501 & JR Models
These models are very different and some would even call them polar opposites.
The Super 501 is the biggest and most powerful machine that Enagic makes. It’s advertised as a large family or commercial model, and it certainly fits the bill. It’s able to produce 2 alkaline streams of water at the same time, since it has 12 platinum coated ionization plates, which is almost double of SD501. If you have a very large family or will use it for commercial purposes, you can’t go wrong with the best that is Super 501.
As for Leveluk JR IV, I’m not really sure why they make it, since it is not able to produce water that is as potent as SD501 for example. It has the least amount of plates out of any machine in the lineup, but it still costs a couple thousand dollars. So even though I understand that not everyone can afford a higher end machine, I’d still recommend going with at least the SD501 and get the most benefits!
About Daly City, California
Daly City is the second most populous city in San Mateo County, California, United States, with a population of 104,901 according to the 2020 census. Located in the San Francisco Bay Area, and gruffly south of San Francisco (sharing its northern border with almost all of San Francisco’s southern border), it is named for businessman and landowner John Donald Daly.
Archaeological evidence suggests the San Francisco Bay Area has been inhabited as in advance as 2700 BC. People of the Ohlone language action probably occupied Northern California from at least the year A.D. 500. Though their territory had been claimed by Spain since the into the future 16th century, they would have relatively Tiny contact next Europeans until 1769, when, as allowance of an effort to colonize Alta California, an exploration party led by Don Gaspar de Portolá learned of the existence of San Francisco Bay. Seven years later, in 1776, an expedition led by Juan Bautista de Anza prearranged the site for the Presidio of San Francisco, which José Joaquín Moraga would soon establish. Later the thesame year, the Franciscan missionary Francisco Palóu founded the Mission San Francisco de Asís (Mission Dolores). As share of the founding, the priests claimed the home south of the mission for sixteen miles for raising crops and for fodder for cattle and sheep. In 1778, the priests and soldiers marked out a trail to connect San Francisco to the on fire of California. At the top of Mission Hill, the priests named the gap together with San Bruno Mountain and the hills on the coast La Portezuela (“The Little Door”). La Portezuela was later referred to as Daly’s Hill, the Center of Daly City, and is now called Top of the Hill.
During Spanish rule, the Place between San Bruno Mountain and the Pacific remained uninhabited. Upon independence from Spain, prominent Mexican citizens were granted home parcels to avow large ranches, three of which covered areas now in Daly City and Colma. Rancho Buri Buri was contracted to Jose Sanchez in 1835 and covered 14,639 acres (59.24 km) including parts of modern-day Colma, Burlingame, San Bruno, South San Francisco, and Millbrae. Rancho Laguna de la Merced was 2,219 acres (8.98 km2) acres and covered the area around a lake of the similar name. The third ranch covering parts of the Daly City–Colma Place was named Rancho Cañada de Guadalupe la Visitación y Rodeo Viejo and stretched from the Visitacion Valley Place in San Francisco, to the city of South San Francisco covering 5,473 acres (22.15 km).
Following the Mexican Cession of California at the decline of the Mexican–American War the owners of Rancho Laguna de La Merced tried to allegation land amongst San Bruno Mountain and Lake Merced. An 1853 US admin survey confirmed that the contested area was really government property and could be acquired by private citizens. There was a brief land rush as settlers, mainly Irish established ranches and farms in parts of what is now the neighborhoods of Westlake, Serramonte, and the cities of Colma and Pacifica. A decade later, several families left as bump in the fog density killed grain and potato crops. The few steadfast families switched to dairy and cattle gardening as a more profitable enterprise. In the late 19th century as San Francisco grew and San Mateo County was established, Daly City plus gradually grew including homes and schools along the lines for the Southern Pacific railroad. Daly City served as a location where San Franciscans would cross higher than county lines to gamble and fight. As tensions built in gate to the American Civil War, California was estranged between pro-slavery, and Free Soil advocates. Two of the main figures in the debate were US Senator David C. Broderick, a Free Soil advocate, and David S. Terry, who was in agreement of strengthening of slavery into California. Quarreling and political court case between the two eventually led to a duel in the Lake Merced Place at which Terry mortally hard finished by Broderick, who would die three days later. The site of the duel is marked subsequent to two granite shafts where the men stood, and is designated as California Historical Landmark number 19.
